Arboretum Events
Nature trail hikes

Pre-registration by calling 609-654-3527 is requested, but not required.
In celebration of “Native Knowledge,” a coordinated statewide program sponsored by the Garden State Gardens Consortium, The Barton Arboretum & Nature Preserve at Medford Leas will offer Nature Trail Hikes on September 11 & 18. This is just one example of activities that will celebrate Native Plants during the month of September throughout the state of New Jersey. Native plants provide food, shelter and nesting sites for birds, butterflies and other wildlife within the Garden State.
Residents of Medford Leas will greet participants at the Nature Center on the Medford Campus, to hike the trails that traverse areas within the 168-acre campus. Guides will point out native plants and share the beauty of the natural woodlands that are a component of the Arboretum.
Participants are encouraged to bring a bagged picnic lunch. Medford Leas will provide lemonade and cookies.

Islam and the West from Muhammad to Osama bin Laden
Six consecutive Mondays beginning September 13 | 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Michael Frassato, Ph.D. will attempt to provide an understanding of Islam and the West today by examining the long and complex history of that relationship. The course will show that the relationship is one that is marked by both a clash of civilizations and by fruitful exchanges that have shaped Islam and the West in important and positive ways.

The Medford Leas Wellness Committee and the MLRA Fitness Committee decided to get moving to stop it — and we’re asking you to join us! We’re participating in the 2010 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk®, the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease. By joining our team, you can help end this epidemic and show your support for the more than 5 million Americans living with the disease.
• We hope to reach our goal of $5,000 to support this cause, but we can’t do it without your help!
• We're on the MOVE to end Alzheimer's disease! Join us—friends, family and co-workers—to take a walk for the cure!

Talking Through Walls

Medford Leas and the Muslim American Community Association are pleased to present the inspiring story of ordinary people engaged in an extraordinary effort.
In the Fall of 2003, when Zia Rahman appeared before the zoning board I his hometown of Voorhees, NJ, he was on a mission to turn a derelict building into a mosque. But some township residents were vehemently opposed to this project. This film, Talking Through Walls tells how a local interfaith community came together to raise the walls of a Mosque and bring down the walls of prejudice.
Open dialogue and light meal follow the screening of this film.
