Burlington County Times: Learn about the Vegetarian Lifestyle

published by Rebecca Carlbon on November 9, 2016

Be a vegetarian for a day, and make that day Nov. 19.

That’s when the Vegetarian Society of South Jersey (VSSJ) will hold its 30th Anniversary Celebration at Medford Leas with a day-long event, complete with speakers, an auction and a vegan luncheon.

The nonprofit society is celebrating three decades of education, support, and social activities with festivities from 10a .m. until 5 p.m. in the Medford Leas Theater.

The deadline to register is Thursday.

“Everyone is welcome to attend our event celebrating 30 years in South Jersey. Vegetarians can be around like-minded people and perhaps get new tips to improve their diet even more. Non-vegetarians can learn from others how their lives were transformed for the better by making a few simple changes, and how adopting a plant-based diet not only improves your health, but also supports an earth-friendly, more humane lifestyle,” said VSSJ founder and president Janet Erickson.

The day’s speakers include:

Victoria Moran, the keynote speaker and author of “The Good Karma Diet,” “Main Street Vegan” and “Creating a Charmed Life,” and director of Main Street Vegan Academy and the host of the Main Street Vegan Podcast. Moran will speak about looking great, feeling amazing, and a changing-the-world lifestyle.
Attorney Lee Hall, author of “On Their Own Terms and Capers in the Churchyard.”
Janine Motta, programs director of the Animal Protection League of New Jersey.
Patrecia Schwailik-Giunta, nutrition consultant.
Dr. Janet Erickson, VSSJ founder and president, will moderate a panel before several cooking demonstrations and a recognition presentation.
The day will also include morning tea and coffee, a silent auction, vendors, afternoon snack, a book sale, book signing, gifts for all attendees and networking. Master of ceremonies will be Barata El and music will be provided by Lou Giunta.

Registration for the day begins at 10 a.m., and programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. Medford Leas is at 1 Medford Leas Way.

The cost is $45 for VSSJ members and Medford Leas residents, and $55 for the public. For more information, or to register, go to the website vssj.com or call 609-484-8341.
