Move-In Day is Almost Here

Two years ago, June 2013, the Medford Leas Community Conversation was all about the plans for Estaugh Redevelopment. Last month, June 2015, the Community Conversation provided a schedule and photos of new units added during Phase One of the construction. The final steps are the Certificate of Occupancy then the State Inspection. Once all legal requirements are met then Medford Leas will have an Opening Celebration of the long-awaited Move-Ins!! The gallery below shows empty spaces and interior construction still in progress in June.

Construction: Roofs are in Place

Beth Bogie’s article in the January 2014 issue of Medford Leas Life provides an interesting account of the construction project, from September 2012 up to the present.

In September 2012, CEO Jeremy Vickers introduced Medford Leas residents to the proposed plans for the redevelopment of Estaugh, the long-term care unit, and Haddon next door, home of assisted living. They would be seeking state approvals through the fall and winter, he said. But, he added with pleasure, “This is the first time that it all has come together.” Today, at the end of 2014, he can look with satisfaction at the Estaugh and Haddon additions moving steadily toward their outward completion.

Ed McVaugh and his sister-in-law, Isabelle McVaugh, sat down with me recently to share their recollections of early building at Medford Leas. Ed’s younger brother, Jack, who was joint owner with Ed of McVaugh Construction Co., of Riverton, NJ, eventually became its president. Jack died in 2009. His obituary noted that “construction of Medford Leas was one of his proudest achievements.” (Medford Leas Life, March 2009) “It was one of the biggest jobs we ever did,” Ed recalled.

Jereremy Vickers’ Community Conversation on June 21, 2013 was largely about plans for “Estaugh Redevelopment, ” a term which is used to refer to the redevelopment of Medford Leas licensed units for Assisted Living and Long Term Care in both the Elizabeth Haddon and John Estaugh buildings.
