Jersey Fresh – Year Round Farming
May 22 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
No fee. Registration deadline: May 18.
Attend this program to learn how Sorbello Farms CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) provides year-round Jersey Fresh produce to the local area. Founded in the 1930’s, Sorbello Farms is in its 3rd generation of family farmers. Located in Swedesboro, NJ, Sorbello Farms has grown to become a 1,000 acre operation.
Sorbello Farms was one of the first farms to introduce drip irrigation and plastic covered beds to New Jersey farmers. Today with the introduction of temperature controlled greenhouses, they are able to provide a variety of produce throughout the year. These systems allow for Jersey Fresh produce to be available year round.
Sorbello Farms take pride in utilizing the latest technology throughout their operations. With that in mind, Sorbello Farms has developed a CSA, a new and growing concept in farming.
CSA is based upon three basic concepts:
- Belief that locally grown produce should stay local and be accessible year round.
- Belief that people should know where their produce is grown and who is growing it.
- Belief in the importance of giving back to communities who support local farmers.
Learn how Sorbello Farms has introduced technology into their farming practices to make their operations more efficient for the benefit of those they serve.
RJ Malseed, is the Sorbello Head of Indoor Gardening. RJ will share his enthusiasm and passion for making Jersey Fresh produce accessible year round.
